Developer Diary #1 — Why I Started SouMoster

June 15, 2025by SouMoster

The Beginning

Every developer has a story, and mine began with a simple thought:

What if mobile games could be simple, polished, and genuinely fun without overwhelming players with ads or unnecessary complexity?

Like many people, I spent countless hours playing mobile games during commutes, coffee breaks, and quiet weekends. While there were plenty of great ideas, I often found myself wishing for experiences that felt more refined—games that respected the player's time, offered smooth gameplay, and focused on fun above everything else.

That idea eventually became SouMoster.

The Vision

SouMoster was created with one clear goal: to build Android games that players enjoy coming back to.

Every game we develop is guided by a few core principles:

  • Player First – Create enjoyable experiences that respect players with fair monetization and minimal interruptions.
  • Quality Matters – Focus on polished visuals, smooth animations, responsive controls, and satisfying game feel.
  • Simple, Yet Addictive – Design games that anyone can start playing in seconds but continue enjoying for hours.
  • Always Improving – Listen to player feedback and continuously refine every release.

Building Road Hopper

Road Hopper became the first step in turning that vision into reality.

On paper, the idea was straightforward: guide your character across an endless road by hopping between lanes while avoiding traffic.

In practice, however, creating a game that feels right required countless hours of experimentation. Small details made a big difference—hop timing, obstacle spacing, movement speed, visual feedback, sound effects, and overall game balance all went through multiple rounds of refinement.

Those tiny improvements are often invisible to players, but together they create the satisfying experience that defines the game.

Lessons Learned

Launching the first game taught me far more than writing code ever could.

I learned the importance of user feedback, playtesting, optimization, game balancing, and polishing every detail before calling a feature complete. More importantly, I discovered that building games is an ongoing journey of learning, improving, and iterating.

Every update is an opportunity to make the experience better.

Looking Ahead

Road Hopper is only the beginning — and v9.2.9 is now live on Google Play.

We're currently working on Space Hopper, the next title in the Hopper series, while exploring more ideas that stay true to the same philosophy that inspired SouMoster from day one:

Build games that are fun to play, enjoyable to revisit, and crafted with care.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Whether you've played Road Hopper, shared feedback, or simply stopped by to learn more about SouMoster, your support means a great deal.

This is just the first chapter, and there's much more to come.
